Recipe by my parents
INGREDIENTS
- 2lb fresh tilapia
- 4-6 green onion, 3″ thin slices
- 4″ ginger, small matchsticks
- soy sauce
INSTRUCTIONS
- Heat water in steamer.
- Prep green onion and ginger.
- Wash fish, descale, and pat dry.
- Stuff fish with green onions and ginger. Place on steaming plate and surround with remaining green onions and ginger.
- Score fish several times to the bone on each side.
- Steam fish for 15-20min. When the fish is done, the meat will peel off the bones, and will not stick on the chopstick when prodded.
- Drizzle soy sauce over top, eat warm.
Thoughts
Buy fish fresh from the store, preferably one of the swimming ones, have the fish cleaned but keep the tail and head. Optional, when fish is done, heat up 1/4 cup of oil (enough to coat the fish) and drizzle over the fish. Delicious. Make a salty and spicy dipping sauce (soy sauce, dash of fish sauce, dash of dark soy sauce, spicy sauce of choice).
